BARH BAH QUEUE - WE HAVE RETURNED!

Daisy May’s BBQ:  Since 2005 Daisy May’s has boasted the title of, “Best BBQ in New York City” and they haven’t looked back since.  Any article or blog I’ve read recently regarding NYC BBQ has Daisy May’s placed at the top of the list.  One afternoon my father and I boarded the hype train to see if this place stood up to the bold claims I’ve read about.   To start Daisy May’s is located a block or two from the USS Intrepid not really close to anything and a nice walk from the Port Authority.  It’s a cafeteria-style restaurant where you order and pay then head down the line past all the food and pick up your meal.  There is no wait staff and the food is ready a few minutes after you order depending on the line.  The dining room is set up just the same 3 long tables and you can be elbow to elbow in strangers.  The overall size of the restaurant was a lot smaller than I expected.  But, had a real awesome feel to it with its BBQ themed decorations and look.

As soon as you walk in the door you’re blasted with the smell of smoked meat, one of my favorite smells.  From the door to the cashier you get to walk passed the already prepared BBQ items that are on display in the cafeteria-style line.   For my meal, I went with the pulled pork combo that came with my choice of 2 sides: BBQ baked beans with burnt ends and the mac and cheese.  My father got the ribs (Memphis Dry Rub) along with creamy cole slaw and the dirty rice.  The meat from the pork was so tender, juicy and perfectly coated in one of the sweetest BBQ sauces I’ve tasted.  The portion size was great (1/4 lb. container stuffed over the brim) for both the pork and the sides.  I had enough for two delicious meals.  The ribs were a definite high point of the lunch.  Smoked to perfection with a great rub that wasn’t over powering but delicious.  The ribs had a perfect smoke ring, color, and were succulent and juicy.  The sides were out of this world especially the mac and cheese and creamy cole slaw.  I can try and describe these but my even Shakespeare would fall short in trying to come close to the taste.  Overall, if you have a free afternoon or evening and can make the ride into NYC do it and hit up Daisy May’s it will not disappoint.  Unless you’re a vegan (Phong).
