The Continental

ContinentalacThe Continental: The Continental in Atlantic City is a restaurant and martini bar created by Steven Starr.  It is the third Continental location, the first being established in Philadelphia in 1995.  The atmosphere of the restaurant had a 1950s-1960s cocktail theme featuring a dineresque setting which led to an “outside” patio seating with a fire-pit surrounded by a small path waterway.  The martini bar features many signature cocktails.  I tried the “Buzz Aldrin” which was a delicious blend of peach vodka, tang and triple sec in a tang rimmed glass. The dinner menu featured upscale takes on traditional diner items.  Being that I went with some friends we were able to share the food, giving me the ability to try many things.  I started with the Cheesesteak Eggroll with Sriracha ketchup.  The Cheesesteak Eggrolls are as simple as they sound: cheese steak in an egg roll.  This was a very tasty appetizer with the Sriracha ketchup being spicy enough to add some kick to the meal.  Next up was the Barbeque Chicken Quesadillas, which I found to be tasty but something that can probably be found in regular chain restaurants.  The avocado sour cream did add great flavor to the meal but, to me, this is an item I probably wouldn’t get again.  The third thing I got to try was the Mahi Mahi Tacos.  This was by far the best item I had.  The Mahi Mahi was covered in a plantain crust, giving them a crunchy outside, and then drizzled with a chipotle ranch sauce that was simply amazing.  The sauce made the meal for me; it was simply delicious. The last thing I got to try was the Pad Thai with chicken (on menu with shrimp but a simple request had it switched to chicken).  It wasn’t over the top at all and was done very traditional which made it excellent.  The sauce that topped off the Pad Thai was the key ingredient to creating an excellent meal.  Overall, the place was priced very reasonably for being in Atlantic City and for what they were offering.  I recommend it if you’re in Atlantic City and want something different than the buffet or don’t want to spend the money at the more fancier places Atlantic City has to offer.
