Tail O The Pup: I had high hopes for this place. A BBQ place with outdoor seating, sequestered deep in Ray Brooke, between Lake Saranac and Lake Placid, NY, it had all the makings of true BBQ heaven. Having visited this place the day after the Can-Am Rugby Tournament, I was in a frenzy for meat. Sadly though, I was fairly disappointed with what I was given. It had the standard BBQ fare; pulled pork, ribs, brisket, chicken, steak, etc. Being hungry, I ordered the “BBQ Lovers” which was pulled pork, ribs, chicken, and brisket. The brisket was quite good, the pulled pork didn’t have much taste to it, the chicken was quite good, but sadly the ribs were dismal. Well, that is to say, the ribs other members of my rugby team ordered were dismal. My ribs were decent. They had a good, smokey flavor, nothing spectacular. For my teammates, they could barely cut the ribs with steak knives. They were wildly disappointed with what they ordered. I was then informed by my teammate “Rehab” that he had been going to this place for going on five years, and each time he came he ordered the “Big Kahuna Burger” no doubt a Pupl Fiction Refrence. That being said, the BBQ would have been fine if this was a chain establishment such as an Applebees. But for a place with the kind of atmosphere this had (outdoor seating under a giant canopy, a stage with live music with plenty of beer flowing)the food should have stepped up to the plate. All in all, if you’re in the Lake Saranc, Lake Placid area, feel free to stop by, but don’t go out of your way. At this rate, it’s just food.
