Numero Dos (Number 2)
The Tortilla Press: Haddon Ave. in Collingswood is a haven for BYOB establishments ranging from diner style restaurants all the way to your gourmet Italian dinners. Along the strip, we’ve found The Tortilla Press. It is a small “Mexican-style” restaurant with a bright and lively atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated beautifully, with paintings on the wall in vibrant colors that make everything jump out at you. As for the food, they do a great job preparing everything fresh when ordered. To start, we had chips and salsa placed on our table as soon as we were seated. The salsa was made fresh and the chips weren’t stale (always a plus). The margaritas were a sweet treat and great way to start the meal with. For my appetizer I had the roasted red pepper and black bean soup. This was a delicious cup of soup that came with a dab of sour cream mixed in. I highly recommend this if you go. For my main course, I ordered the pulled pork with chipotle peanut bbq sauce served with; chipotle mashed potatoes, black beans, green chili cornbread, and I added a side of Spanish rice. This meal has already won the National Award for Best Entrée by the Peanut Advisory Board. I have to say that it lived up to the hype and then some. The pork tasted so tender and juicy while the sauce was sweet and tangy, not so much spicy. The mashed potatoes were to die for! I am a huge fan of spice and these potatoes really had some kick to them which made my stomach quite happy. The green chili cornbread was another piece that had me in awe as it was so delicious. Every part of the meal complimented each other greatly. The rice and black beans were done traditionally and both were great additions to the huge dish I was served. One of my favorite things about The Tortilla Press is the presentation of the dishes. They are arranged beautifully and decorated quite well. The Tortilla Press is usually packed, so if you’re not getting there early expect to wait for a table, a wait that is worth it.
