Tortilla Press: Part Dos

The Tortilla Press: As one of my favorite Mexican-style restaurants I always keep up with this place to see if they have any specials or events planned for me to enjoy and I found just that this weekend.  The Tortilla Press from November 18th to November 20th was part of a promotion called “Off the Hook” a seafood extravaganza.  They featured a four course meal for the price of $30 per person.  For your courses you got: an appetizer, a soup or salad, entrée, and a dessert.  All menu items came with three different choices and a fourth being a vegetarian option.  To start I had the Oyster Po Boy Taco topped with Jicama~Jalapeno slaw.  These guys were delicious and actually bursting out of the taco.  My only wish was that there was more slaw because it was delicious.  My second course was the Clam Chowder with roasted poblanos (type of green pepper), corn and potatoes.  This was a delicious soup that didn’t lack on clams like I’ve noticed other places do.  It also came in a nice green color with some corn chips sprinkled in.  For my entrée I went with the Fire Grilled Coconut Habanera Shrimp with chipotle mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley.  There were 6 large shrimp on the plate covered in an amazing sauce that was overpowered (in a good way) by coconut.  The chipotle mashed potatoes were great as usual.  I also got to sample the Seafood Enchiladas which were stuff with crab, shrimp and scallops covered in a creamy chipotle tomato sauce that was “off the hook!”  For dessert the coconut custard pie was the way to go.  I was extremely full at this point of the meal but the pie was out of this world and needed to be finished.  Overall, I think this was a well worth it night where you absolutely stuffed when you left.  I recommend keeping your eyes open for restaurants that do promotions like this, you’ll sample some new items that aren’t always on the menu and they are usually at great prices.
